Thanks for the great rundown. Had no idea about #1! I especially appreciate your list of specific services that you like. My question is – for #6 how do you like using 'whenever' to encapsulate cron?

For Cron jobs there is a very interesting gem called “whenever” which is the right tool for the job, and it also extends to capistrano so that your cron jobs are updated when you deploy.
