app development trends in 2019

Business trend awareness is more important than you think.

Your ability to identify the changes (market trends) and act accordingly is the key to steer your efforts in the right direction.

How do we know what people want?

We calculate. It is called Business Forecasting. You have to estimate the growth opportunities and strategize a successful launch, especially for a mobile app. Before you build a mobile application for your business, I am here to tell you about a vital area to make your venture prosperous –

Biggest Mobile App Development Trends in 2019.

If you are a smart entrepreneur, you should already have an idea about the proven benefits of swimming with the current, i.e., following the latest trends.

And, if you are a genius who is already on his way to discover the next $60 Billion Silicon Valley organization, then you would probably have known by now about the following Mobile App Development Trends in 2019 that are likely to take over the world soon:

1. 5G

From an app developer’s perspective, 5G’s ultra-fast speed should eliminate app loading time due to an assurance of instant connectivity, in case any latency is visible with 4G today. 4K streaming and gigabytes of data transfer? Done in an instant!

With negligible response times, also watch out for IoT application development with the advent of 5G’s ‘connection density’ that can support about a million connected devices in a given area (a quarter-mile for eg.), whereas our present 4G technology only handles around 1000-5000 devices in the same area.

4G is fast, but there are still some operations for which the developers prefer WiFi, i.e., downloading large data packages. When 5G rolls out, there should be no hesitation to use the mobile internet over WiFi for better speed.

5G would also revolutionize the mobile industry by the improvisation of SaaS/cloud products, which are predominantly being used on computers at present. The fifth-generation cellular network would also pave the way for next-gen cloud-based mobile applications.

Thus, this is exactly the right time to acquire the knowledge, because 5G is not too far to arrive!

2. Mobile Commerce

Mobile Commerce or simply M-commerce has become an integral part of the mobile application development industry. M-commerce’s growth has already achieved astounding milestones in the last 5 years and it is here to stay. More and more businesses are trying to find new ways to integrate their operations with mobile apps.

If I ask you, how many transactions do you think you have done through your smartphone in the last 15 days?

I have done some on my phone, can’t remember exactly how many. But I am sure that my poor laptop didn’t take much part in that, probably 10%.

What I am trying to say is that there are tons of people out there, who don’t even use their laptop to make an online purchase these days. I am one of them, whenever I am home. It’s just my work laptop that makes a transaction or two in a month.

Call it a trend or the future, it’s essentially about Mobile Commerce now. That’s why the entire mobile development community is all over it.

3. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning

For each one of you who is associated with mobile application development, tell me if you have not explored the subject of AI & ML yet.

Even, if you are an entrepreneur and have nothing to do with programming an app yourself, it is extremely important to understand that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is going to become the mainstream story for possibly every enterprise mobile application project, if not already.

That ‘e-brain’ generation has arrived. Organizations have already started to execute AI/ML’s automation benefits for:

  • Anticipating customer purchase, making recommendations & offers.
  • Scanning various social media platforms for mentions of product issues/negative comments and provide automated resolution.
  • Monitor and prevent security malfunctions.
  • And, a lot of industry-specific functions!

4. Wearable Tech

From the early heart rate sensor integrated into a smartphone to the combination of battery-free sensor and its companion app to measure UV exposure/environmental aggressors for healthy skin, the healthcare industry is not behind anyone.

However, it is just a small part. The scope of wearable technology is extensive.

If you have already seen smartphone-connected smart rings, fitness devices, assault protection gadgets, smartwatches, then wait for some more futuristic wearable devices like Smart Shoes to charge your phone’s battery or a multi-function Bluetooth Headset to monitor heart-rate, blood oxygen levels, steps, and track activity, etc.

5. Blockchain

Blockchain can make app-based transactions faster with reduced risk and the overall project development cost is decreased too!

A Blockchain-powered app project (Blockchain As A Service) can also be used with cloud-based backend, thus, giving you a powerful option to save time and money, while making a superior application.

Apps with financial interfaces and business-critical data are now using this beautiful technology for extended security and precision.

Well, if you haven’t reaped the benefits of Blockchain in our age of cloud-computing yet, it’s not too late to start!

6. Augmented Reality

It is my calculated observation that Augmented Reality will flourish alongside the smartphone industry and it would stick with us for a very long time. To use Augmented Reality mobile apps, consumers don’t really need an accessory to buy. After all, who likes to carry around a supplementary device with a smartphone all day?

Regardless of what others say about its scope in the market, I am not a fan of Virtual Reality as an average user. How often do you wear a VR headset? The one I bought has been sleeping in my cupboard for a year now! That was only an urge to shop.

Having said that, I think the Augmented Reality will emerge as a winner. Even in its early stages of development, it is being enhanced with Artificial Intelligence to develop cognitive features, just like Computer Visiona blend of AR and AI.

It’s not only the consumer-facing AR+AI technology that is going to prevail in the long run. There are tons of commercial aspects that would fortify the model of mobile app development with AR, such as Google’s machine learning-enabled microscope to highlight cancerous tissues, AR products for office meetings, and even fully autonomous vehicles with AR indicators on the dashboard.

7. Android Instant Apps

One of the most popular concepts gaining momentum amongst Android developers is Instant Mobile Apps. Although similar, Instant Apps are not Progressive Web Apps.

On Google Play Instant official page, I can see something like creating a native mobile app without the need of installation, but for only trying out an app or a game as it suggests.

If you ever come across an Instant App, simply tapping the URL would show you a browser-based realistic mobile app on your screen with capabilities of a conventional Android app. Surprisingly, this type of app works without any considerable difference than an installable mobile app.

With this said, the idea still seems to be in its development stages. It is because, to access all the features after trying out an Instant App, you may have to download the full version.

Nevertheless, I strongly believe that Instant Apps have the potential to become something big. It is because the cloud technology and 5G’s speed could play a key role when you do not have to download and store the necessary 100 MB to keep an app in your phone, if 5G can transfer several gigabits per second!

8. Internet of Things

Last but not least, IoT is one of the latest trends in the mobile app development industry that would witness tremendous growth in the next five years.

But, do we necessarily need mobile phones to automate a household with the Internet of Things

Yes, we do.

For an IoT setup, mobile apps are a convenient way to monitor and control the devices’ operations from a distance. I cannot think of a highly advanced IoT system without a supporting mobile app to run the house remotely. Hence, the understanding of Internet of Things becomes very important for mobile application developers in 2019.

By now, I hope you have an idea about the ongoing trends in the mobile app development industry.
